The Cosworth DFV was the greatest privateer engine ever seen. It raced for 15 years and it won for 15 years. And the incredible thing is, it was just one engine, not a manufacturer that kept updating their engine. The DFV was so far ahead for its time that teams were unable to create cars that could withhold the beast. This engine was initially designed exclusively for Lotus, but was later sold to most other teams. This engine won championships with Lotus, Tyrell, McLaren, Williams and Brabham. It is also the only engine to attain a 100% win percentage in a year.
